image Born and raised in Miami, FL, Garry W. McCarthy started Calypso Marine Electronics, Inc. in 1979, in Miami Florida, as President and C.E.O. Calypso Marine Electronics, Inc. successfully operated in Miami and is currently based in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Calypso Marine Electronics specialized at first in Yacht Marine Electronics Sales, Service and Installations. As the marine industry matured, diversification became paramount to maintaining a competitive edge. Calypso evolved further adding Marine Electrical Sales, Service and Installations, Marine Electronics survey, Marine Electrical survey, Marine Corrosion survey and consulting, Yacht Electronics and Electrical Engineering, New builds and Refit Engineering and Design. Mr. McCarthy has authored thousands of maritime survey reports. The survey reports are for vessel owners, at the time of purchase, fire and lightening strike incidences as well as corrosion damage control and suspected damage incidents for insurance companies. All reporting uses the guide lines of the American Boating and Yacht Council (ABYC) as it relates to the yachting community. For commercial reporting, the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has been his reporting standard along with the required CRF rules established by the United States Coast Guard.

With a strong background in Avionics, love of flying and the sea, Garry saw the natural fit with avionics and marine electronics. The Marine Industry market demand now includes aircraft, helicopters, submarines, scuba, wave runners, exotic vehicles and water toys, opening many other opportunities and needs with respect to maintenance and upkeep of the very specialized equipment. Calypso Marine Electronics, Inc. also offers commercial services to both sea and land based operations, aircraft, avionics, individual electronic devices as well as complex networks and systems necessary for comfort, entertainment, safety and, more important, survival on land, sea and in the air.

image Avionics, electronics and electrical systems for civil and commercial aircraft is an area Garry McCarthy especially enjoys that adds extensive expert services beyond marine electrical and electronics specialties. Today's modern seacraft often include aircraft, submarine vessels, waverunners and scuba equipment - all requiring service and attention for safety and enjoyment of all concerned. Mr. McCarthy continues to maintain an A&P Air Worthiness Certification. A partial list of Avionics & Aircraft Customers include: Bendix Avionics, Aero Systems, Bernside Ott and Caribe Avionics. Mr. McCarthy is a graduate of M.C.A.T.,N.A.R.F. Marine Corps Accreditation In Technology-Naval Air Rework Facility. While stationed with the 2nd Marine Air Wing, M.C.A.B., assisted with developing the first Raster Scan Radar System. Garry holds an Equivalent BSEE- that includes Accreditation in Electronic Calibration required by the National Bureau of Standards and he maintains Membership in NMEA and ABYC. Also, higher educational standards are certified and accredited through Electronics Technical Engineering Accreditation as well as Accreditation/Calibration Degree. Garry McCarthy is an Avionics Engineering contractor having contributed to and/or invented specialized avionics equipment and systems. Garry McCarthy is a Member of Chambers of Commerce in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

PERSONAL LIFE Garry McCarthy, on a day to day basis, participates in all operations of his business. He performs the task at hand and/or hires, trains if necessary and supervises those who assist him on projects. His hobbies were boating and flying prior to starting his electronics business. He started flying aircraft while in the Marine Corps and currently holds a pilot license. Garry maintains the highest level of performance, reliability and integrity both personally and in business.
